In today’s episode, we’re talking with Jenna Green all about affiliate marketing the right way.
What is affiliate marketing?
Affiliate marketing is simple. It is recommending products you already love on the platforms your already use and getting a small percentage of it.
The biggest mistake when it comes to affiliate marketing
Over complicating it! It doesn’t have to be complicated.
You don’t have to be a Khardashian to be an “influencer”. If you have one follower, you are an influencer.
Signing up to be an affiliate for a bunch of products you’ve never tried is the biggest mistakes when it comes to affiliate marketing.
How to find affiliate programs
Start with the products and services that you already use and love. Usually websites will have a link in the footer to sign up for their affiliate program. If not, simply reach out to them via email or social media to see if they have one!
Many times you will find bigger companies in affiliate networks.
Affiliate Networks vs Direct Affiliate Programs
The decision on which one is right for you, really depends on you and your audience. Affiliate networks usually offer more in terms of ease of use since multiple brands are in one place. But direct affiliate programs usually have a higher payout.
What to look for in an affiliate program
Every affiliate program is different with different rules. So you want to make sure you read their terms and conditions thoroughly so you don’t break any rules.
But it is also important that you know the commission rate (how much you make per referral and what a referral is) as well as the payout terms. For example, do you need to hit a certain threshold before you get your payout? How long after a commission is earned do you get paid?
You also need to follow the FTC guides. You can read about them here.
How to use and share your affiliate links
Affiliates can be shared anywhere from social media platforms, Pinterest, blog posts, and emails. The one thing to note here though is to check out the Terms and Conditions of the program, because some programs might not allow certain things. For example, Amazon doesn’t allow links in emails.
What makes a successful affiliate marketer?
You really need to understand your target audience and what they want to hear about.
You also need to be authentic! Your audience can tell when you are being inauthentic and that won’t do you any favors.
